The OAKVILLE DIVERS PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development (eLearning program) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
    • You can get started immediately with the knowledge development portion of the course and work at your own pace using the PADI eLearning® system. This convenient, interactive study option allows you to learn anytime and anywhere you have an internet connection. The eLearning online theory requires approximately 8 to 10 hours. Some people complete it in a weekend, some people take a few weeks. A hands on equipment and learning session with our PADI 5 Star Instructor will be scheduled at the shop upon completion of your elearning exam.
eLearning modules and final exam must be completed prior to meeting with instructor and starting In Water training.
  • Confined Water Dives (in lake) to learn basic scuba skills.
    • One full weekend is required for completion of the in water skills prior to moving on to the Open Water Dives.
    • Our in water training is held off the shores of Lake Ontario in Oakville (sessions will resume in the Spring).
    • We are now offering pool skill sessions on Tuesday evenings. If you wish to do your first portion of training in the pool, instead of Lake Ontario, an additional $50 per session will apply (typically it would be 2 sessions at $100 plus tax).  All student divers will require a valid vaccination passport QR code as per Ontario and municipal health regulations for indoor facilities in order to participate in the pool sessions.
  • Open Water Dives (in the lake or any location in the world with a PADI referral letter) to use your skills and explore!
    • Our Open Water Certification dives are held off the shores of Lake Ontario in Oakville. 2 days of Open Water Training is required. Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Spring, Summer and Fall. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone Open Water Dives due to under-enrolment (we require a minimum of 4 registrations), instructor illness or inclement weather. If a certification weekend is cancelled, you may transfer to another date.
Some swimming ability is required. You need to have basic swim skills and be able to comfortably maintain yourself in the water. We start the first session with a swim test. Swim 200 metres/yards (or 300 metres/yards in mask, fins and snorkel). There is no time limit for this, and you may use any swimming strokes you want. Float and tread water for 10 minutes, again using any methods you want.

** Our course is designed for ages 12+. If you have an 11 year old interested, please contact the shop before purchasing **

All student divers complete a brief scuba medical questionnaire that asks about medical conditions that could be a problem while diving. If none of these apply, sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of these apply to you, your doctor must, as a safety precaution, assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms you’re fit to dive. Download the scuba medical questionnaire.
*IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK YOUR MEDICAL FITNESS PRIOR TO PURCHASING, AS ONCE CODES ARE ACTIVATED WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER A REFUND*
